November 20, 2015 (New York) -- Today at Pier 16 in lower Manhattan the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) honored William M. Feehan by christening and commissioning of the new fireboat William M. Feehan. Captain Louis Guzzo led the ceremonies which included a number of dignitaries from in and around the FDNY. William M. Feehan was a FDNY firefighter lost in the September 11 World Trade Center attacks.

CMA CGM Slowed by Rates, Sees 2016 Recovery
France's CMA CGM, the world's third-largest container shipping firm, said freight rates should recover next year after a market downturn led to a sharp fall in its third-quarter profits. The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, hit a new all-time low on Friday, pulled down by a vessel glut and slowing industrial demand from China. "Freight rates are expected to remain weak in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Final Phase of Maritime Technology & Training Center Underway
The San Jacinto College Maritime Technology and Training Center is in its final phase of construction before its January 2016 debut. Construction has been ongoing since last Fall. The facility will serve as the site for certificate and associate degree maritime training delivered through U.S. Coast Guard-required and approved course work. Relocation of the three full-mission ships bridge simulators has been completed.

Rolls-Royce Wins Multiple Steerable Propellers Contract
Rolls-Royce has signed a contract for the delivery of 12 azimuthing thrusters to Sanmar Shipyard in Turkey, with an option for an additional 30 units. The azimuth thrusters from Rolls-Royce, will provide propulsion for 6 tugboats rising to 21 if the option is exercised. Each tugboat has a bollard pull of 60 to 80 metric tons. An azimuthing thruster is a propeller that can be rotated 360 degrees around its vertical axes, providing thrust in any direction.
