DNV GL - Maritime CEO Addresses Cybersecurity at CMA 2015
“Ships and offshore structures are becoming more and more interconnected,” said Tor Svensen, CEO DNV GL - Maritime, when taking the stage at this year’s CMA (Connecticut Maritime Association) event in Stamford, CT. Cybersecurity in the maritime and offshore industry was also up for discussion at this year’s CMA Shipping event during a session with the US Coast Guard, ship owners and class representatives. Using AIS Data to Assess Collision Risks
Automatic Identification System (AIS) data is now being used to determine the collision risk for offshore installations. MARIN helps oil companies with risk assessments for offshore installations by calculating the probability of a ship collision with the offshore installation. For these calculations, the traffic around the installation can now be modelled using AIS data. In this way, the traffic situation is realistically represented.

Joint High Speed Vessel USNS Trenton (JHSV 5) successfully completed Acceptance Trials (AT) on March 13, 2015 in the Gulf of Mexico. Austal, the Trenton's shipbuilder, today announced the completion of the trials, which are the last significant milestone before delivery of the ship. Joe Frohnhoefer, Founder of Sea Tow, Dead at 71
Captain Joseph Frohnhoefer, Jr., the founder and CEO of Sea Tow Services International, died Tuesday at the age of 71. He passed at his home in Southold, NY after a battle with cancer. Frohnhoefer founded Sea Tow, which now has over 100 locations across the U.S., Europe and the Caribbean, in 1983. He stated publicly that he founded the company after the U.S. Coast Guard stopped responding to non-emergency calls.
Rosneft Cancels Rig Contract

Moskito to Recover Oil from Sunken Wrecks
A tool for removing oil in submerged vessels was developed in Norway by Miko Marine. Moskito is designed to address the pollution threat that exists with the large numbers of sunken ships around the world that still contain significant quantities of oil in their tanks as cargo or bunker fuel. Many of the thousands of ships sunk during WWII now have seventy years of corrosion eating at their plates and the days are drawing closer when the pollutants could escape.
