Cargo Ship Missing in Hurricane Joaquin
The fate of more than 30 crew aboard a cargo ship that ran afoul of Hurricane Joaquin off the Bahamas was unknown on Friday as the powerful storm battered the island chain for a second day. News of the missing vessel came as forecasters shifted the likely track of the powerful storm further away from the U.S. East Coast, but there were still warnings about the potential for severe flooding in the Carolinas from unrelated heavy rains.
IHC Services Secures Dredger Repair Contract

MARAD to Fund Study on LNG Conversions
The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced it has entered a $900,000 cooperative agreement with Totem Ocean Trailer Express Inc. (TOTE) to study the costs and benefits of converting vessel to liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion. Under the agreement, TOTE who is to convert its containership MV Midnight Sun to operate on dual fuel LNG, will work with MARAD to obtain pre- and post-conversion air emissions data, as well as operational information.
Odfjell's Tanker Overhaul Seeks to Slash Emissions by 20%
Norwegian tanker shipper Odfjell announced it is upgrading the propulsion systems aboard 19 of its chemical tanker vessels in a move that aims to reduce its fuel consumption and emissions by up to 20 percent. The factory acceptance test (FAT) of the first ME-GI engine in Japan recently took place at the Tamano Works of Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
