Damen Performs Cruise Ship Maintenance
The 46,052 GRT cruise ship Magellan has recently completed a five-week scheduled maintenance stopover at Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam. For two of the weeks, the 222-meter vessel was positioned in the yard’s 250-meter no.4 dry dock where the hull, rudders and propellers underwent a thorough inspection and cleaning. Originally built for Carnival Cruise Lines in 1985 and named Holiday, Magellan is now part of the Global Maritime Group Inc.
DNV GL Grants AIP for HHI’s SkyBench
Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has received an Approval in Principle (AIP) certificate from Classification society DNV GL for its SkyBench concept for increasing capacity of mega box ships. The result of development conducted by HHI and work with DNV GL, the certificate confirms that the concept complies with the DNV GL rules for the classification of ships. HHI’s Senior Executive Vice President & COO of Shipbuilding Division, Yoon Moon-kyoon, was presented with the certificate by Tor E.
Caterpillar Adds Azimuth Thrusters to Tug Package
A fresh range of azimuth thrusters will be featured in a newly integrated propulsion package from Caterpillar Propulsion targeting the tug market. The 60 metric ton bollard pull Cat Propulsion Marine Thruster Azimuth (MTA) is the first model in what will become a new family of rotatable units optimized for tug operations, with an initial unit expected to be delivered into a commercial trial by the end of 2015.
DOF Extends VSAT Contract with Marlink
DOF Group has renewed its VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) services contract with Marlink for five more years, with options to further extend the services. Under the new contract announced at Nor-Shipping 2015, Marlink will provide customized VSAT services to 60 DOF owned offshore and subsea vessels, counting an additional eight vessels on the previous contract, including several imminent newbuilds.

Redwise delivers two dredgers to Singapore – one from the east, one from the west. The newly built TSHD Barito Equator was delivered by Redwise to Singapore in the first week of May 2015. Built by the Damen Shipyard at Pontianak, she followed strait on the heels of the THSD Moniflor built 2000 by IHC in The Netherlands for the French government.
