CMA CGM Launches West African Service
The CMA CGM Group announced the launch of a new service, WAZZAN, joining Morocoo to North West Africa, and improving the container shipper’s Intra African coverage. The CMA CGM Group said the new service improves transit time between Mauritania, Senegal and Morocco by eight days, with previous transshipment calls being replaced by direct ones. In addition, a new direct call, from North West Africa and to Morocco, in Las Palmas is introduced.

GE Gas Turbines for Japan’s New Destroyer
GE Marine will provide IHI, Tokyo, Japan, with two LM2500 aeroderivative marine gas turbines for the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force’s (JMSDF) new 26DD destroyer. “GE gas turbines already are part of numerous JMSDF ship classes, most recently the 22DDH, which is already commissioned, and the 24DDH, which is now under construction,” said Brien Bolsinger, Vice President Marine Operations, GE Marine, Evendale, Ohio.

Nautisk Launches NaviTab
Nautisk unveiled its latest navigational solution: NaviTab from Nautisk, a unique concept that replaces a vessel’s onboard Navigational Publication library. Hundreds of books have been uploaded onto a hi-spec hand-held device, suitable for use both onshore and on the bridge. “Currently, all vessels sailing global routes must carry a full portfolio of navigational publications (NPs) in order to sail compliantly and meet SOLAS Regulation,” said Nautisk CEO Thomas Fjeld.
Kleven Delivers to Olympic Shipping
Offshore construction vessel Olympic Bibby, build no. 371 from Kleven Verft, has been delivered to Norwegian shipowner Olympic Shipping. The vessel has a long term charter with Bibby Offshore, and its first job will be on the British sector of the North Sea. The naming ceremony was held in Olympic’s home harbor Fosnavåg April 9. The vessel measures 87.5 x 19m, making the entrance to the narrow harbor (22m wide) a spectacular sight.

USCG Approves PureBallast for Barge Applications
The explosion-proof version of Alfa Laval’s chemical-free ballast water treatment system, PureBallast 3.1 EX, has received approval from the U.S. Coast Guard for use on barges sailing in U.S. coastal waters. The approval comes a year after Alfa Laval PureBallast received an IECEx Certificate of Conformity from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for use in explosive atmospheres on board ships in international waters.
