Bawat Gains USCG’s AMS Acceptance
The ballast water management system developed by Danish company Bawat A/S has been granted U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Alternate Management System (AMS) acceptance for an interim period of up to five years, enabling commercial vessels equipped with the system to be approved to discharge treated ballast water in U.S. coastal waters. Diederichsen expects to obtain a full type approval by the U.S. Coast Guard regarding U.S. waters well ahead of the expiration of the interim period.
Bibby Sees Hike Interest From Offshore Sector
Bibby Ship Management is seeing a near 20% increase in inquiries for its services from the offshore sector as ship owners and support vessel operators look to reduce costs and recruit the best crews for their vessels. This development is fuelled in part by a move by the oil majors to reduce their costs in the aftermath of the slump in oil prices while still demanding high quality support vessel operations from ship owners who service their offshore supply needs.
EU Backs Green Ferries Conversion
The EU's TEN-T Program will provide more than €2 million to back the upgrade of two ferries navigating in the Baltic Sea to the mixed use of electricity and fuel. The new hybrid propulsion system will help to reduce the environmental impact of ships, as well as secure the operability and stability of the vessels. The new EU regulation requires all vessels travelling in European waters to cut down the emission of sulphur oxide (SO) from 2015 onwards to decrease environmental pollution.
