Höegh Jacksonville was delivered by Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries S.A. (DMHI), the first from a series of two 6,500 units Pure Car Truck Carrier (PCTC). This vessel is owned by Ocean Yield from Norway while the charterer is Höegh Autoliners AS, a leading global provider of RoRo vehicle transportation services, based also in Norway. The vessel, the biggest of her type ever built into the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea area, measures 655.8 x 105.8 x 32.2 ft.
New Survey Catamaran for Indian Navy
The Indian navy is operating a stable research platform built around a steel-hulled catamaran. The 53.15 by 16-meter (174.4 X 52.5-foot) INS Makar has a molded depth of 4.5 meters (15 feet). Designed by the Australian naval architecture firm Sea Transport Solutions, the INS Makar, first in a series of up to six vessels, was delivered from the Alcock Ashdown (Gujarat) Ltd form from its Bhavnagar shipyard.

The Siem Moxie measures 242 x 55.7 ft. (74 x 17 m). It is the very first X-Bow support vessel which features two sets of Voith Schneider Propellers. Both the Voith Schneider Propellers are also used for its active roll stabilization system and dynamic positioning (DP-class 2).

Harvest Leader is an ECO CLASS 7700 units PCTC, built at Hyundai Mipo Dock (HMD) and delivered in October 2014 with a CLEAN class notation. The efficient Post Panamax design was achieved via close collaboration of the owner, the builder and class, in this case DNV GL. The most significant improvement is in the field of energy efficiency in terms of fuel consumption per unit carried, which the owner claims is presently the lowest in the PCTC market.
Great Ships of 2014: Gas Star - 84,000 CBM LPG Carrier
Gas Star is the first of two 84,000 CBM LPG Carrier built by Hyundai Heavy Industries for KSS. The vessel measures 225 x 36.6 m, with a depth of 22.2 m and a design draft of 11.6 m. The ship is powered by a HYUNDAI-MAN B&W 6S60MC-C8.2 main engine with a NCR output of 11,340 kW at 89.5 rpm, enabling it to sail at a service speed of 16.8 knots with 15% sea margin. Electrical supply is derived from three generators of 1,140 kW, plus an emergency unit of 150 kW.

A team of divers from the A7 Project have measured the metal thickness of the sunken HMS A7 submarine using a Cygnus DIVE underwater ultrasonic thickness gauge, allowing them to determine the current condition of the submarine and to monitor its deterioration over time. ULSTEIN Sells 100th X-BOW Design
With the latest contract for two offshore wind service vessels for Bernhard Schulte/WINDEA Offshore, ULSTEIN has achieved 100 sales of the X-BOW hull line design. The milestone was achieved 10 years after the launch of the X-BOW design in 2005. Following the sales to Bourbon Offshore Norway of the second and third ship designs featuring X-BOW, Group CEO Gunvor Ulstein was asked by the media whether the hull design was now a success. "Come back when we've sold 100," Gunvor said in reply.
Dr. Doumbia-Henry Named WMU President
Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry has been appointed president to head the World Maritime University (WMU), as announced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and university. Dr. Doumbia-Henry will be the seventh WMU president and will be the first female in the role. Dr. Doumbia-Henry, who has dual Dominican and Swiss nationality, is currently director of the International Labor Standards Department, of the International Labor Office of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
$7 Billion Makeover for Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Shipping
A new study released today reveals that $7 billion is being spent on asset renewal and infrastructure improvements in the bi-national Great Lakes-St. Lawrence shipping system. The investment survey, compiled by maritime trade consultants, Martin Associates, tallies US$ 6.9 billion in capital spending on ships, ports and terminals and waterway infrastructure in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence waterway.
