Huntington Ingalls Industries hosted commencement exercises for the company's Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding. The graduation, held at the Liberty Baptist Church Worship Center in Hampton, celebrated 137 apprentices representing 18 trades and four advanced programs. Danny Hunley, vice president of operations at Newport News and an Apprentice School graduate, served as the keynote speaker.

According to a recent report from PwC, transportation & logistics, CEOs are more optimistic this year compared to last despite having some big worries, like transport infrastructure readiness. TheyÂ’re currently focusing on developing a strong workforce, where they need it, but talent strategies will need to keep up and theyÂ’re improving their environmental footprint too. BMT Consultants India (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, the international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, says it has partnered with Bibby Ship Management to deliver training for marine pilots. Based at BibbyÂ’s state of the art training centre at St XavierÂ’s Technical Institute in Mumbai, the new partnership will utilise BMTÂ’s REMBRANDT marine manoeuvring simulator.

A new well-intentioned maritime fuel regulation from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is poised to crowd roads and increase onshore air pollution, maintain shipping industry leaders Rod Jones and Bill Terry, President and CEO of the CSL Group and of Eagle Rock Aggregates, respectively. They explain that the rule requires the use of high-cost, ultra-low sulfur fuels in ships operating within the 200 nautical mile (nm) boundary of the North American Emission Control Area (ECA).

Stolt-Nielsen Limited announced today the successful placement of senior unsecured bonds in a total amount of NOK 1,250 million (approximately $207 million USD) in a new seven-year bond issue carrying a coupon of 3m Nibor + 3.35%. The settlement date for the new bonds is expected to be March 18, 2014 and the maturity date for the new seven-year bond issue is expected to be March 18, 2021. An application will be made for listing the bonds on the Oslo Stock Exchange as soon as possible.
