Signaling a major commitment to tug fleet renewal, Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) has placed a 10-vessel order with Damen Shipyards Group, as part of the state-owned operator’s strategic shift from chartered in to owned tonnage. Once a top secret, the 60,000 pound propeller from the nation’s flagship may be scrapped to raise money for the preservation of the historic vessel. On board America’s Flagship the SS United States on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 11-11:30 a.m., the SS United States Conservancy will announce the result of its nationwide search for a donor to save one of the historic ship’s massive five-blade propellers.

GPLink’s remote monitoring equipment has been installed on hundreds of Cat powered vessels throughout the world. The company has recently announced that its product has received its first integration on a non-Caterpillar power package. In March, Spencer Yachts splashed their latest build, an 87-foot sportfish yacht named Bangarang, equipped with twin MTU M94 2600 horsepower diesels capable of propelling this mammoth vessel to a cruising speed of 40 knots.
