Today, I had the opportunity to speak to a group of industry professionals at the Finished Vehicle Logistics Conference, where the theme of the discussion was the import and export of new cars. Iâm sure youâre wondering what vehicle logistics has to do with the Maritime Administration. And thatâs a very good question. Self-Pilot Personal Submarine to Launch in Monaco
DeepFlight announced it will introduce a new type of personal submarine at the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show. The company said its new product, the DeepFlight Dragon, is the most compact, lightweight personal submarine on the market, and is so intuitive to use that clients self-pilot the craft with minimal instruction. The all-electric (zero emissions) DeepFlight Dragon was designed specifically for easy use from yacht or shore to explore the twilight zone down to 400 feet (120 meters).

Crowley Tug Participates in Rig Blackout Test
Once again displaying their diversity for use in the domestic petroleum industry, one of Crowleyâs four ocean class tugs, Ocean Sky, recently provided back-up station-keeping and holdback services during a routine blackout test of ultra-deepwater, semisubmersible oil rig Noble Jim Day in U.S. Gulf of Mexico. This Shell-leased, Noble-owned rig is currently operating in about 9,600 feet of water in the 508 section of Walker Ridge as part of the Stones Prospect.
McDermott Wins Fast-track Build Contract in Indonesia
McDermott International, Inc. announced today that one of its subsidiaries has been awarded a fast-track fabrication contract by PC Ketapang II Ltd., a subsidiary of PETRONAS for the BTJT-A Jacket as part of the Bukit Tua Development Project in the Ketapang block of East Java, Indonesia. The contract is included in McDermottâs second quarter 2014 backlog. McDermott will fabricate the four-leg 1,100-tonne wellhead jacket, from the Batam Island fabrication facility in Indonesia.

Rickmers-Linie Transports Railway Cranes to China
Rickmers-Linie, the Hamburg-based liner carrier for break bulk, heavy lifts and project cargoes has again been chosen by Kirow for the transportation of railway cranes from Hamburg to Xingang. The shipment in August marked the continuation of a long-standing relationship between the two companies. The shipment contained six cranes of the type KRC 2880, with 20 more units of the type KRC 1680 are to follow into 2015. Kirow has been a long-term supplier of the Chinese railways.

Voith Bags Largest Marine Order to Date
In South Africaâs largest local shipbuilding contract Transnet National Ports Authority has ordered nine new Voith Water Tractors (VWT) for use in several ports across the country, marking the largest order in the history of Voith marine technology. The VWT will be built by South African Shipyards in Durban over the next 42 months. Eight of the tugs will be identical in construction with a length of 31 meters and a beam of 12.5 meters.
Ulstein Designs PSVs for Otto Offshore
Ulstein Design & Solutions has entered into a contract with Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd, China, for the delivery of ship design and equipment for four PX121 type platform supply vessels. The shipowner is the Singapore based Otto Offshore Ltd., who will receive all vessels in 2016. The contract also includes an option for four additional vessels. These PX121 vessels are capable of supporting offshore activities which are being carried out further from shore and in deeper waters.
