Carnival Retrofits Fleet with VDR Systems
L-3 SAM Electronics has retrofitted Carnival Cruise Lines’ fleet of 24 ships with its Voyage Data Recorder (VDR 4350) system. L-3 SAM Electronics’ VDR 4350 system provides extended recording time and ECDIS-based onboard and onshore replay features, together with options for remote control and maintenance via SATCOM. The modular Ethernet-based VDR 4350 series provides a comprehensive backup capability for the storage and downloading of recorded data.

Indiana-based TPG Mt. Vernon Marine, LLC purchased Chicago Dry Dock, a Chicago area shipyard founded in 1979. Chicago Dry Dock operates on the Calumet River and offers unencumbered access to both the Great Lakes (via Lake Michigan) and the Inland River System (via the Calumet/Des Plaines/Illinois Rivers). Founded as Kern Barge Cleaning and Repair, CDD purchased its first dry dock in 1995 and was renamed and incorporated as Chicago Dry Dock in 1996.

Scheepswerf van Os has delivered the outfitted Pieter Breugel to shipping company Vloot DAB. The ship will employed in the ferry service between Hoboken and Kruibeke, Belgium. The vessel measures 28.65 x 9 meters, has a draft of 1.94 meters and is suitable for the transport of 240 passengers with or without bicycle. The Pieter Breugel is equipped with two Scania Di12 S9M diesel engines, two azimuth drives and two Stamford generator sets.

Concordia Increases Exposure with Tanker Contract
Concordia Maritime takes a position in the Stena Bulk’s Suezmax fleet corresponding to a 50 percent charter of one tanker. The transaction was done by Stena Bulk and the vessel will operate during one year on the open spot market in the successful Stena Sonangol Suezmax pool, which already includes Concordia Maritime’s Suezmax tanker Stena Supreme. The chartered vessel was built in South Korea in 2012 and has a deadweight of 158,000 tons. Delivery of the tanker has already taken place.
