The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners recently filled key Harbor Department executive posts with staff veterans as the Department continues to undergo a reorganization initiated by Chief Executive Jon Slangerup. Dr. Noel Hacegaba, who has been serving as the Acting Deputy Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer since June 2013, was named as the new Managing Director of Commercial Operations/Chief Commercial Officer.

New Research Vessel Delivered on the Great Lakes

The new oceanographic research and fisheries assessment vessel, Arcticus, completed her sea trials and was delivered to the U.S. Geological Survey's Great Lakes Science Center on October 17. The Arcticus, designed by JMS Naval Architects (JMS) and constructed at Burger Boat Company, replaces the R/V Grayling and becomes the newest member of a five-vessel fleet owned and operated by the Great Lakes Science Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Boater Rescued from Sailboat Blaze

The U.S. Coast Guard assisted with the rescue of a boater Monday after the man's 33-foot sailboat caught fire five miles west of Windmill Point in the Chesapeake Bay. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received a VHF-FM channel 16 broadcast from Brown at approximately 10:40 a.m., stating his sailboat was on fire. Watchstanders were unable to maintain communications with Brown after the initial broadcast.
