Earlier this week, BSEE's Oil Spill Response Division (OSRD) conducted an onsite review of oil spill response equipment listed in DCOR, LLC's Oil Spill Response Plan for platforms offshore Long Beach, Calif. The visit included verification of equipment and response vessels maintained by Marine Spill Response Corporation. OSRD verifies the equipment listed in each operator's plan on a rotating basis in addition to reviewing maintenance and training records.

The IMO is on the verge of adopting the Polar Code, something that is important and long overdue. The International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, is on the verge of adopting the Polar Code. When implemented, it will establish the first mandatory rules for operation of commercial vessels in polar waters. This important step is long overdue. On 18 January 2010, the IMO adopted voluntary guidelines for ships operating in polar waters (Res. A.1024).

Two MCS Exhaust Gas Boilers to Tersan Shipyard
Parat Halvorsen AS has been awarded new boiler plant contracts for two freezer trawlers to be built at Tersan Shipyard located in Telova, Turkey. The boiler plants are for Tersan¹s newbuildings No. 1060 and No. 1066, which will be equipped with Parat combined oil fired and exhaust gas boilers, type MCS, to comply steam production for the freezer trawlers fishmeal and fish oil factory. Halliburton to Settle US Gulf Spill Claims for $1.1b
Halliburton Co said it reached a $1.1 billion settlement for a majority of claims against the company for its role in the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. The settlement, which includes legal fees, is subject to approval by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. It will be paid into a trust until all appeals have been resolved in three installments over the next two years, the company said.
