DOT Awards Grant for Rehabilitation of Wando Welch Terminal
U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today announced a $10.8 million TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant for the rehabilitation of the Wando Welch Terminal project, one of 72 transportation projects in 46 states and the District of Columbia that will receive a total of approximately $600 million from the Department of Transportation’s discretionary grant program.

MN 100: Massachusetts Maritime Academy
Massachusetts Maritime Academy is one of nine Massachusetts State Universities. Established in 1891, the academy now offers seven undergraduate and two master’s degrees. Approximately 50-60% of the undergraduates are enrolled in unlimited USCG Merchant Marine License preparatory programs. 1,350 students are members of the Regiment of Cadets residing on campus. The academy operates a training vessel (T.S. Kennedy) used to acquire sea service for the cadets.

USCG Repatriates Cuban Boat Migrants
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Cutter Knight Island repatriated 45 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Wednesday. These repatriations are a result of two separate interdictions of people attempting to illegally migrate to the United States through the Florida Straits. On Saturday, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Dauntless interdicted 25 migrants aboard an aluminum rustic vessel southwest of Key West, Florida.
I-Tech’s Selektope Approved in China
I-Tech informed that Selektope, a marine biocide used to improve ship hull performance and reduce maintenance, has been approved for use in China. Selektope has been approved for use as an antifouling biocide by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People’s Republic of China. “We are pleased to receive approval from the Chinese authorities of our antifouling technology following a rigorous environmental risk assessment,” said Philip Chaabane, Managing Director of I-Tech.
