Salvage Operations Begin on Grounded Tug
The U.S. Coast Guard continues to oversee salvage efforts of the towing vessel Kimberly Selvick in Lake Michigan off of Burnham Park, Friday afternoon. The Kimberly Selvick began taking on water and became partially submerged while trying to retrieve two barges that broke free during a tow, Monday afternoon. The Kimberly Selvick remains partially submerged. A dive survey of the hull has been completed.
First Great Lakes Shiprider Patrol of 2014
A U.S. Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Mounted Police law enforcement boat crew conducted the first Shiprider patrol of the 2014 Great Lakes boating season, Thursday, in Lake Erie. Ferus Smit to Launch Cargo Ship Arklow Beach
On Friday, June 6, Ferus Smit will launch Nb. 411 at Westerbroek. Nb. 411, to be christened Arklow Beach, is the third vessel in a series of six that will be delivered to a client from the city of Arklow, Ireland. The design is a bulk oriented general cargo ship that will be mainly employed in the shipment of wheat, corn and other bulk commodities in European waters. As hull form it was chosen to adapt the âbulblessâ principle, creating a slender bow without bulb, the shipâs builder said.

The Broadband of Competitive Advantage
Inmarsat Maritime President Frank Coles said the efficiency gains of the âMaritime Industrial Internetâ are at hand, if only shipowners can grasp the potential for competitive advantage. The first satellite in the Global Xpress fleet will complete all of its testing by July of this year, with the second and third satellites on schedule to be launched by the close of 2014. The Global Xpress Maritime service is expected to become globally available from the end of the first quarter of 2015.

US Deploys Three Offshore Wind Energy Projects
As a part of the Obama Administrationâs all-of-the-above energy strategy, the U.S. Energy Department today announced the selection of three pioneering offshore wind demonstrations to receive up to $47 million each over the next four years to deploy innovative, grid-connected systems in federal and state waters by 2017. These projects â located off the coast of New Jersey, Oregon and Virginia â will help speed the deployment of more efficient offshore wind power technologies.
Damen Names Royal Oman Navy Flagship

Jolly Nero Casualties Remembered One Year Later
Those killed in the collision of the Jolly Nero one year ago on May 7, 2013 were remembered in a memorial Mass celebrated by the Cardinal of Genoa, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco. Seafarersâ charity Apostleship of the Sea also held a commemoration in Genoa at the hour of tragedy on Wednesday to offer support and prayers for survivors and families affected. The day of remembrance concluded with boats gathering at the sight of the collision to pray for the deceased and to cast wreaths on the water.
Thrustmaster Closes OTC with Dutch Barge Company Deal
Thrustmaster of Texas, a manufacturer of commercial marine propulsion equipment based out of Houston, closed out this year's OTC by placing ink to paper after signing a contract on the trade show floor with the Dutch Barge Company Thursday to supply a complete thruster package.
