SevenCs Conducts Capacity Building for Montenegro
After signing a RENC membership agreement with the Institute of Hydrometeorology and Seismology Montenegro (IHMS) PRIMAR and the Norwegian Hydrographic Service team up with SevenCs for capacity building. In November 2013, IHMS signed a RENC agreement with PRIMAR. Having a motivated team, paper charts and some recent surveys, IHMS was lacking a production environment and detailed knowledge in ENC production.
ALMACO Wins Several Provision Stores Contracts
ALMACO has been awarded several Provision Stores contracts, including 2,000 square meters for Royal Caribbean Internationalâs Quantum of the Seas to be delivered at Meyer Werft in 2015, and Anthem of the Seas expected in 2016. Also, ALMACO will be delivering 2,600 square meters of Provision Stores to STX France for Oasis 3 in 2016. ALMACO has installed Provision Stores in more than 100 ships since 1992. At that time, the know-how belonged to MacGREGORâs Passenger Ship Type Division.

KBV Orders Another Vessel from Norsafe
On July 2, 2013, Norsafe and the Swedish Coastguard (KBV) signed a frame contract concerning the delivery of their next generation workboats. The total number of boats is undecided but in October Norsafe received the seventh boat order for delivery in 2014 - a contract to deliver the next generation Magnum 750 rescue boats. In 1997, KBV purchased new workboats from Norsafe, and this resulted in the design of Norsafeâs Magnum 750.
ICS Board Prepares for IMO Meeting

Wärtsilä Achieves 2013 Financial Target
"For Wärtsilä, 2013 was a year of varying activity within our different end markets. While the improvement in global vessel contracting was significant, power generation markets declined for the second consecutive year. Unfavourable exchange rates and some delayed deliveries at the end of the year led to a slightly weaker than expected net sales development. Profitability on the other hand developed well, reaching 11.2% for the full year.
Loss of the Tall Ship Bounty: Official Report
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board has determined that the probable cause of the sinking of tall ship 'Bounty' was the captain's reckless decision to sail the vessel into the well forecasted path of Hurricane Sandy, which subjected the aging vessel and the inexperienced crew to conditions from which the vessel could not recover. Contributing to the sinking was the lack of effective safety oversight by the vessel organization.
Allianz Launch New Seafarers' Health Insurance Plan
Global health insurer Allianz Worldwide Care say they have launched a new plan which offers a compliant solution for on-shore health care to shipping companies affected by the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006), commonly known as the âSeafarersâ Bill of Rightsâ. MLC 2006, which came into force in August 2013, requires shipping companies to provide comprehensive rights and protection to the worldâs 1.2 million seafarers, including the provision of a minimum level of healthcare cover.
New Canadian Lifeboats: Government Seeks Industry Feedback
The Government ministers concerned have announced that the Government of Canada has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to seek industry feedback on the next generation of Coast Guard lifeboats, due to be built as part of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategyâs (NSPS) small vessels program. The intent of this RFI is to engage directly with Canadian shipyards who are potential suppliers of these new vessels.

Obama Arctic Plan Misses the Mark, Says Alaska Lt. Governor

Governor Mead Treadwell told a gathering of oil and gas experts that President Obama's recently released implementation plan for the nationâs Arctic strategy misses the mark. Thai Dive Boat Sinks in Andaman Sea +20 Rescued
The MV Blue Star, belonging to Chalong Sea Sports, caught fire and sank in Burmese waters while on a week-long dive trip. All 20 or so people on board are safe, though they lost their belongings, and a great deal of expensive dive gear is understood to have gone down with the boat, reports the Phuket Gazette. The Blue Star was a 28-metre live-aboard vessel with 13 cabins capable of accommodating up to 26 passengers. She had a maximum speed on 10 knots.
