Fairmount Glacier Delivered Rig La Muralla IV in Mexico
Tug Fairmount Glacier has delivered rig La Muralla IV in Bay of Campeche, Mexico. The rig has been towed from Okpo, South Korea, via Sunda Strait and Cape of Good Hope. La Muralla IV is a brand new semi-submersible drilling rig for ultra deep water operations, owned by Mexican Grupo R. The rig is constructed by Deawoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea. La Muralla IV is designed to drill up to depths of 10.000 meters. The rig has a length of 118,6 meters and a width of 96,7 meters.

BIMCO has announced that its new Secretary General/CEO to succeed Mr Torben C. Skaanild on his retirement later this year will be Mr Angus R. Frew, currently Chief Executive of the UK Chamber of Shipping. The appointment of Mr Frew was unanimously approved last week by the BIMCO Executive Committee at its meeting in Shanghai. China Shipyard to Build 4 AHTS for Russia's Femco
Sinopacific's Dayang shipyard in China, contracted to build four advanced specification Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels for Femco Group. The four AHTS’ will have 12240 bhp and 150 tons bollard pull, and are of Sinopacific’s own SPA-150 design to BV class. Main engines, shafts, CPP propellers, thrusters and DP system will be supplied by Rolls-Royce. The rest of the main machinery will be provided by Norwegian and European manufacturers.

New AVT 3000 Class Voith Schneider tugboat for Carbonnes del Cerrejón completes delivery voyage from Turkey to Colombia. The new tugboat, Media Luna, sailed into Puerto de Bolivar, Colombia to be welcomed by other Cerrejón towing vessels providing fire monitor displays. Lake Michigan Coal-burning Ferry: Future Questioned
The EPA permit that has long allowed the SS Badger to dump coal ash into the lake is now under review. On the shores of Lake Michigan, the tiny town of Ludington, Mich., is home port to the last coal-fired ferry in the U.S. The SS Badger has been making trips across the lake to Manitowoc, Wis., during the good-weather months since 1953. And as it runs, the 411-foot ferry discharges coal ash slurry directly into the lake, reports NPR.

The US Navy has exercised contract options with Austal USA for the construction of LCS 14 & LCS 16. Austal USA’s order backlog has grown by approximately $681.7 million dollars as a result of two additional Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) contract options being exercised by the United States Navy. The contract options fund construction of the LCS 14 and LCS 16, the fifth and sixth ships in the 10-ship block buy award made to an Austal-led team in December 2010.
