Rolls-Royce, Baleària to Partner in LNG Conversion Project
Rolls-Royce Plc signed a memorandum of understanding with Spanish shipping company Baleària to design gas-powered propulsion systems for three of the company’s high-speed ferries, which currently run on diesel. Baleària, which operates ferry services between the Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands in the Strait of Gibraltar and The Bahamas Islands, is proposing the conversion of three ferries from diesel to liquefied natural gas (LNG).

NLI, WTS Win DNV Approval for LNG Tank Design
NLI Solutions and Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions have received Approval in Principle from DNV on a jointly developed LNG Fuel Tank solution based on the NLI LNG tank design. Oslo, 4th of June 2013. Heinen & Hopman in the Netherlands has completed the installation of a major HVAC system onboard the Dolwin Alpha offshore converter platform. Designed by IV-Oil and Gas, commissioned by Tennet /ABB and built by Heerema Fabrication group, the platform is now ready to be moved to the North Sea. This challenging project involved the complete design and engineering of the HVAC systems, which Heinen & Hopman completed on time and to satisfaction.

LNG 'Pea Pod' Carrier Order for MHI
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to build a 7th pea-pod superstructure shape "Sayaendo" LNG carrier for a "K" Line/INPEX subsidiary joint venture. Sayaendo series ships feature a unique structure that integrates the LNG tank cover with the ship hull, resulting in significantly improved fuel consumption and maintainability. The order was placed with MHI by Ocean Breeze LNG Transport, Ltd. (OBLT), a joint venture between Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" Line) and a subsidiary of INPEX.
Rolls Royce Wins Significant Fincantieri Cruise Ship Contract
Rolls-Royce signs extensive equipment orders with Italian cruise ship builder Fincantieri for Viking Cruises' 2 newbuildings. Viking Cruises recently ordered two cruise ships from Fincantieri and have chosen the highly-efficient Rolls-Royce integrated rudder and propulsion system, called Promas, for their vessels. This is the first time that a Promas propulsion system is being installed on a new-build cruise vessel.
Ingalls Shipbuilding Contracted to Build Five USN Destroyers
Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division awarded a fixed-price incentive, multi-year contract for construction of 5 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers (DDG 51s) for the U.S. Navy. The contract has a total value of $3.33 billion and includes options for engineering change proposals, design budgeting requirements and post-delivery availabilities, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to approximately $3.39 billion.

The famous Gdansk shipyard is once again in trouble as Its new Ukrainian operator has run out of money to pay wages. In its golden years, the 1980s, 17,000 people worked in Gdansk shipyard, reports Deutsche Welle. Those times are long gone. The shipyard faced bankruptcy twice. Then a Ukrainian investor came along with plans to build modern high tech ships and a factory for wind turbines. But the investor's plans haven't worked out, and the Solidarity trade union has taken industrial action.
