The Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA) announced the 2014 dates for its Introduction to Commercial Inland Marine course. The two-day Introduction to Commercial Inland Marine course will be held at IMUA Headquarters, 14 Wall St., NYC, on September 19 & 20, 2013 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This two-day introductory course is designed to cover the basics of commercial inland marine insurance, with emphasis on the largest/key inland marine classes of business.
McDonough Launch First of Seven Spud Barges
McDonough Marine Service has launched the first in a series of seven new inland spud barges. The spud barges are being constructed at Yager Marine Industries in Owensboro, Kentucky and range from 110’ to 140’ in length. The first of the series to be launched is the KS 4011 with the dimensions of 110’ x 40’ x 7’6”. The barge was designed with a boxed stern that provides maximum flotation during crane operations.

Horizon MF is Raytheon Anschütz’ new strap down compass system which uses Hemispherical Resonator Gyros (HRG) to measure angular rates for heading calculation. In a strapped-down system angular rate gyros and accelerometers are not gimballed but mounted stationary in a housing.
