Harkand Launches ROV Support Vessel in Singapore
The newest ROV support vessel to service Asia Pacific’s oil and gas industry has been launched in Singapore. Around 100 invited guests from across the global energy sector attended the christening ceremony of the Harkand Harmony at Keppel Marina. Sophie Mottais-Trouve, the wife of Harkand’s Vice President of Commercial and Strategy Olivier Trouve, opened the festivities by officially naming the 65m vessel. The Harmony’s christening follows two major milestones for the group, Harkand said.

Peruvian Navy to Build Tall Ship with GL Class
"La Unión" the new Peruvian Navy tall ship sail training vessel, will be constructed under the supervision of classification society Germanischer Lloyd (GL). Tall ships are used in navies around the world to build seamanship, leadership and foster teamwork under challenging conditions at sea. The keel laying for the new ship took place in December 2012 at Marine Industrial Services (SIMA), the Peruvian shipyard where the new vessel will be constructed.
Long Serving Charity Employees Reminisce
Two employees of one of the U.K.’s oldest maritime charities have been reminiscing after celebrating a collective 80 years of service at the Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society. Margaret Brazier and Anne Kasey have dedicated 50 and 30 years respectively to the Banstead based seafarers’ care home, which provides nursing care and accommodation support to elderly, sick or disabled seafarers, their widows and dependants.
Largest Damen Stan Pontoon for McKeil-Malaspina
The largest pontoon ever stock-built by Damen was sold to the Canadian McKeil-Malaspina partnership and will be towed to Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada this summer where it will be used to support offshore construction operations. The Damen Stan Pontoon 12032 measures 120 x 32.2 meters, has a deadweight capacity of approximately 20,000 tons and a hold of 8.1 meters. The barge is equipped with a sophisticated ballast system, generating set and mooring winches.

The 'Medway Queen Preservation Society' (MQPS) reports progress on the restoration of the historic UK River Medway passenger ferry. The re-dedication ceremony was held in the Albion Shipyard in Bristol, and now the tow to Gillingham in Kent (on the same River Medway) is eagerly awaited. The Society say that it is impossible to overstate the achievement of the Albion Dockyard in building this, the first fully rivetted steel hull in the UK for well over 50 years.
