URS Appoint Retired Rear Admiral Vice-President
Retired Rear Admiral Nevin Carr has been named Vice President for Surface Readiness & Future Capability at URS Corporation. In his new position, Mr. Carr will be responsible for expanding URS’ capabilities and solutions to meet the evolving needs of the surface warfare community. He will be based in the company’s Norfolk, Virginia office. Mr. Carr retired from the U.S. Navy in 2012, following a distinguished 34-year career as a surface warfare officer.
Willard Marine Nets Foreign Navy Boat Orders
Headquartered in Anaheim, California, Willard Marine is emerging as a leading supplier of patrol boats for international navies: recent sales include the Lebanon Armed Forces, Egyptian navy, Ukrainian navy and Iraqi navy, under U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs. Lebanon has acquired four Willard Marine 11-meter cabin rigid-hull inflatable boats (RIBs) and four 11-meter open console RIBs for coastal patrol missions through the U.S. Coast Guard FMS office.
Wärtsilä Releases ECA Compliant Dual-Fuel Engine
Wärtsilä has now released its Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel engine for sale in the US market. The engine meets the strict emissions compliance criteria of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 and is now available to American ship owners and operators. The Wärtsilä 20DF is a proven and successful engine, and its release to the US market is in response to the growing demand for natural gas fueled engines.
Helix Awards Huisman Contract
Huisman won a new contract from Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. for the delivery of a Well Intervention System onboard Helix’s new build Semi submersible “Q7000”. The system, which is based on Huisman’s proven Multi Purpose Tower (MPT) design, will be built by the Huisman production facility in China. The fully integrated 800mt Well Intervention System will be capable of handling the Intervention stack, the high pressure riser and other components.
Rolls-Royce, GPA Collaboration Pays Dividends
Rolls-Royce and Guido Perla and Associates, Inc. (GPA) collaborative efforts are delivering results for customers in North America. Rolls-Royce and GPA most recently teamed up last year to provide a highly innovative design and power & propulsion systems integration solution for two PSVs for Jackson Offshore Operators. Delivery of the first two GPA 675J PSVs, currently under construction at BAE Systems’ shipyard in Jacksonville, Florida, will be made in 2014.
New Straddle Carriers for MSC Terminal in Antwerp
Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has gained an order to supply five Kalmar electric straddle carriers for MSC Home Terminal in Antwerp, Belgium. In addition, Kalmar will supply one new generation hybrid straddle carrier to the customer on a rental basis. The agreement was signed in August 2013 and the new units will be delivered in February 2014. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order. The order has been booked into Cargotec's 2013 third quarter order intake.
