Fairmount Fuji Assists Saipem in Congolese Waters
Fairmount Marine’s multipurpose vessel Fairmount Fuji has assisted Italian contractor Saipem with her operations offshore Congo. Fairmount Fuji has performed several cargo runs between Siapem’s Boscongo yard in Pointe Noire and the offshore Congo moored drilling ship Siapem 1000. Fairmount Fuji also took care of the transport of Saipem crew. Drilling ship Saipem 1000, a fifth-generation drilling ship for ultra deepwater operations, was moored offshore Congo pending her next assignment.

Norfolk-based Fendercare Marine, a supplier of marine products and services, has secured a contract to supply Yokohama fenders to Eastport U.K. Norfolk port. The contract, won against international competition, is for the supply of 17 Yokohama pneumatic fenders measuring 2 x 3.5 m to be used at the Great Yarmouth port. Eni presented the twelfth edition of World Oil and Gas Review, the annual statistical review of the world oil and gas market and the refining system. Oil and gas reserves continue to rise, confirming that operators are able to replace reserves put into production and to find new ones: a comparison of 1995 reserves with those of 2012 reveals an increase of almost 40%. In the past year, however, despite a 2% increase in oil reserves, those for gas remained largely flat (+0.4%).

Bluefin Robotics, a provider of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), announced that it has acquired SeeByte, Ltd., a provider of autonomous platform software that enhances the user experience and the capabilities of underwater sensors, vehicles and systems. Van Oord Contracts Damen for DP2 Cable Laying Vessel
Van Oord has ordered a new cable laying vessel. The ship will be built at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania and will be completed at the end of 2014. The vessel is intended for the installation of electricity cables for offshore wind farms. Van Oord is making preparations for the Gemini offshore wind farm which will be constructed 60 kilometers to the north of Schiermonnikoog, one of the Dutch Wadden Islands. The cable-laying vessel will be deployed at that site, among many others.

World First: A Purely Gas-Powered Tug
While the advent of gas as power in the marine market is growing increasinly common, most every installation is actually "dual fuel", meaning the vessel is able to use LNG or traditional diesel fuel to power the boat. This weekend in Turkey, however, marked a significant turning point perhaps in the adoption of LNG as fuel in commercial marine vessels, as Rolls-Royce reports that Sanmar Shipyard’s completed a world first: a purely gas powered tug.
