EPA and Coast Guard Reach Pollution Control Agreement with Carnival
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Coast Guard have reached an agreement in principle with Carnival Corporation to develop advanced emission control technology to be used in waters surrounding U.S. coasts. Under the agreement, Carnival will develop and deploy a new exhaust gas cleaning system on up to 32 ships over the next three years to be used in Emission Control Areas (ECA’s). New Lifeboats Delivered to KNRM
On Friday, August 30, 2013 in Volendam, two new Nikolaas class lifeboats were delivered to the Royal Dutch Rescue Society (KNRM), the Bert and Anneke Knape for Lelystad and HAYO for Hoorn. The lifeboats are Fast Rescue Crafts 903, designed by Pieter Meuzelaar (Dutch Special Marine Group) and built at Habbeke Shipyard in Volendam. It is a completely new design from which the KNRM the main requirement was that the sailing conditions were to remain the same as the current boats of this class.

Great Lakes Shipyard Drydocks Fishery Research Vessel
Great Lakes Shipyard has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, an agency of the Department of the Interior, for the 5-year drydocking and inspection of the R/V SPENCER F. BAIRD. The Shipyard hauled out the research ship using the 770-ton Marine Travelift. Work includes drydocking, a complete exterior repainting, bow thruster replacement, its five-year survey, and other miscellaneous repairs. The shipyard says that the project is to be completed early November 2013.
