Those planning to attend the many activities associated with the International Fleet Review will have an easier time keeping track of what’s on offer with mobile phone application being launched next week by the Royal Australian Navy.

The app, slated to officially launch on Monday, September 9, 2013,  has been developed to support the International Fleet Review (IFR) and will have information on the myriad of related events occurring in and around Sydney Harbour from October 3-11, including the IFR Warship Open Days.

“The International Fleet Review celebrates the centenary of the first RAN Fleet entry into Sydney, so it’s fitting that we’re commemorating our history, while utilizing the technology available today,” said Director of the IFR, Captain Nick Bramwell. “The IFR 2013 app provides ready access to all the information on the IFR and events that Sydney communities are invited to participate. It tells people about the best vantage points to watch the IFR fireworks and lightshow spectacular, as well as information on when many of the ships will be open to the public.”

Captain Bramwell said it details the combined fleet entry into Sydney Harbor, the ceremonial review, and our parade of over 4,000 sailors up George Street.

“We have also included information about all participating Australian and international warships, tall ships, military and historic aircraft, and military bands, and general information about the IFR.”

A selection of warships will be open at Barangaroo and Garden Island for members of the public to share in the Naval celebrations, and the app provides a link to purchase tickets for the IFR Warship Open Days on Sunday and Monday, October 6-7.

Tickets for the IFR Warship Open Days will cost $3 per person plus booking fee.  It is the first time that the RAN have utilised a ticketing system when opening ships to the public.

The IFR 2013 app is free for download through iTunes and Google Play. Tickets for the Warship Open Days are also are available directly through Ticketek.

Over 40 warships and 16 tall ships from 18 nations, plus 8,000 naval personnel will take part in the International Fleet Review to celebrate Navy’s historic event which is being staged in partnership with the NSW State Government and City of Sydney Council.
