GL Releases New Thickness Measurement Software
The latest version of classification society Germanischer Lloyd's (GL) thickness measurement software Pegasus, was recently released. To verify the structural integrity of a vessel, hull thickness measurements must be periodically take, with each measurement point documented. The number of required measurement points can number up to 20,000 - all repeatedly measured over the life of the vessel, creating a vast amount of essential data which must be effectively managed and assessed.

MAN Engines to Power Italian Luxury Cruise Ships
MAN Diesel & Turbo is to supply eight engines for the diesel-electric propulsion of two cruise ship newbuildings to Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. The company is delivering the engines in cooperation with Alfa Laval who will supply accompanying exhaust-gas-treatment systems (PureSOx) for sulphur-oxide removal. Each cruise ship will be powered by two MAN 9L32/44CR and two MAN 12V32/44CR engines, providing a combined output of 23,520 kW in a diesel-electric propulsion arrangement.

Cargo Ship Aground Off Tobermory
A cargo ship, MV Fri Ocean, has run aground approximately 2.5 miles south of Tobermory, Sound of Mull. Stornoway Coastguard received a 999 call just after 6 a.m. this morning reporting that a 90-meter vessel carrying wood had run aground on rocks. The RNLI Tobermory all-weather lifeboat and the Tobermory Coastguard Rescue Team have been sent to the scene. Norwegian shipping company Høyergruppen AS's small cargo ship MV Fri Ocean was heading from Fort William, Scotland to Varberg, Sweden.
Deadly Accident Aboard GDF Suez Platform
Two people are dead and one injured as a result of an accident during pressure tests on equipment on June 14, 2013 at approximately 9:45 a.m. onboard GDF Suez E&P Nederland B.V's L5A platform, approximately 103 km North of Den Helder, the company said in a statement. The injured person was evacuated from the platform and taken to the hospital at 11:40 a.m. All other personnel onboard have been accounted for, the company said.
