Intelsat S.A., a provider of satellite services, with International Launch Services (ILS) announced that an ILS Proton vehicle successfully launched the Intelsat 22 satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. After a 15 hour and 30 minute mission, the Breeze M successfully released the Intelsat 22 satellite, weighing 6199 kg, into supersynchronous transfer orbit (SSTO) at a 65,000 km apogee.

The £350m contract to refit and refuel HMS Vengeance was confirmed by Defence Secretary Philip Hammond during a visit to Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth. The contract will sustain more than 1,000 jobs at Babcock in Devonport, and a further 300 at other companies in Plymouth. Such is the scale of the refit that another 700 jobs in the industrial supply chain across the UK will also be sustained.

One of Portugal's largest warships, the Vasco de Gama Class frigate NRP Corte Real added its name to the list of ships (EUNAVFOR) operating in the Horn of Africa sea area. The new addition to the fleet will mount counter-piracy operations, with a view to protecting WFP aid shipments to Somalia. Commissioned into the Portuguese navy in 1990 the Corte Real is no stranger to the Horn of Africa, having previously worked to prevent piracy under the 'OCEAN SHIELD' NATO Operation.

Watchstanders of the 8th Coast Guard District command center received a report from the 7th Coast Guard District command center that a man aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Voyager of the Seas, was reportedly suffering stroke-like symptoms. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew to assist with a medevac. Upon retrieving the man from the cruise ship, he was taken to Touro Infirmary in New Orleans for treatment.

These days, Raymond is still at his Intracoastal Iron Works yard full time, but his son Peter is doing a lot of the day-to-day management. With three boats under construction in March there was plenty to keep them both busy. The yard has recently added a new 165-ton ladder boom crane and two 35 ton cherry pickers. Business is good.
