Fire on board S. A major rescue effort was launched in the Ross Sea in early January when the 51 metre Korean fishing vessel Jeong Woo 2 caught fire. It was the second major incident in Antarctic waters in as many months and involved several Korean fishing vessels, a United States research vessel and a United States Air Force (USAF) aircraft. Jeong Woo 2’s distress call was picked up by another Korean fishing vessel, Hong Jin 707.
Russian Warships to Get NATO Comms Equipment
Russian warships will be equipped with NATO navigation and communications systems to improve coordination in anti-piracy missions around the world, Chief of the Russian General Staff Nikolai Makarov, as reported by Rianovosti News Agency. Anti-Piracy and the Use of Force
The recent incident involving the MV Enrica Lexie off the coast of India highlights the increasing carriage on merchant vessels of armed security guards (whether military personnel or private contractors) to ward off attacks by pirates and robbers. I will not speculate as to what may have occurred on board the tanker or on the fishing vessel where two individuals unfortunately lost their lives. Suffice it to say that this is a tragic incident for all involved.

JHSV 3 one of 5 Navy Vessels Under Construction at Austal USA. The third Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV) is taking shape on the waterfront. The first of 43 modules for JHSV 3 have been successfully transported from the Module Manufacturing Facility (MMF) and erected in the final assembly bay on the waterfront. The most recent module transported, at just under 90 percent complete, is 20,400mm long with a max width of 8,300mm and is 9,400mm high from keel to main deck.
