Imtech Marine Introduces the New Furuno RHRS 2014
Furuno and Imtech Marine have jointly developed an innovative product for inland waterway shipping. The RHRS 2014 river radar is a revolutionary color radar, unique in the inland shipping market is the mouse control, which makes this radar very user-friendly. It also offers maximum safety thanks to a black box with two SD cards for 24 hours of storage of radar images. The RHRS 2014 replaces the RHRS 2005, which is now being used on more than 4,000 inland waterway ships.
Beam Launches RapidSat 700 a Portable Satellite
Beam Communications Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of World Reach Limited (ASX: WRR), has announced the launch of RapidSat700, a portable satellite communications system that operates with the Inmarsat BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) network. RapidSat700 is a portable “all in one case” for satellite communication deployment in emergency situations, first responder and disaster recovery work.
First Voith Water Tractor with Fully ECS
Shipowner Fukushima Kisen based in Iwaki on the east coast of Japan has commissioned the first Voith Water Tractor (VWT) with a fully electronic control system (ECS). On the ECS version, the hydraulic unit is no longer separate but is installed on the rotor casing foundation of the Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP). Not only does this save space, but it also simplifies maintenance and increases reliability. The new VWT Shinano has been designed for harbor assistance and escort duties.

UK's Proserv Wins Platform Topside Controls Contract
Proserv secure a £1.2-million contract to supply topside control equipment at a major southern North Sea development. The company was awarded the deal on the Cygnus field by operator GDF SUEZ through its design contractor AMEC. As part of the agreement Proserv will supply the design, engineering and build of wellhead control panels and accompanying topside umbilical termination unit for the Alpha and Bravo platforms.

NYK hosts cruise aboard their Japan-based cruise ship to the region worst affected by the earthquake. US Navy Hurricane Sandy Relief Ships Homeward Bound
The three amphibious ships supporting Hurricane Sandy relief efforts off the coast of New York & New Jersey return to their homeports in Virginia.
