This is the first in a number of Sales & Service Agents which Strategic Marine announced it was developing in February 2012. Gibdock Wins Container Ship Contracts
Reederei Hans Peterson & Sohne is the latest German owner to select Gibdock as a repair location for a container ship, a vessel type that the Gibraltar-based yard has identified as generating high levels of workflow through the first part of 2012. The 188m long, 1997-built Westerburg operates in the Mediterranean and West African trades. As such Gibdock was an ideal location for the owners to carry out the work required.
Liberian Registry to Use Advance Vessel Screening
The Liberian Registry has introduced a sophisticated programme to screen advance notice of ship arrivals as part of a detention prevention plan to help maintain its independent ranking among the safest and most efficient ship registries in the world. The overall objective is to maintain and strengthen the already excellent safety record of the Liberian flag, and to further reduce detention rates, especially in Australia, China, the EU and the United States.
RINA Launches Management Shareholding Scheme
International classification society RINA has introduced a management shareholding scheme which will increase group capital by Euro 12 million and give managers across the group the opportunity to share in RINAâs growth. In the first tranche almost 50 per cent of the available shares have been taken up by 90 managers, who have paid Euro 6 million for 2,840 shares, around 5 per cent of the group capital. A further tranche of 3,000 shares will be released to staff over the next four years.

Sunken Treasure Recovery Operation Mounted by Odyssey
Historical records indicate the Gairsoppa was carrying up to seven million ounces of silver and the Mantola was carrying approximately 600,000 ounces of silver when each sank. Odyssey discovered both shipwrecks in Q3 2011 and conducted a series of reconnaissance dives to both sites in March and April 2012. Both the Gairsoppa and Mantola projects are being conducted under contract with the UK Department for Transport.

World's Longest Offshore LNG Pipe â Divers Ready
The gigantic Nord Stream pipe, with two same-sized parallel ones, runs from Vyborg in Russia through the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea to Lumina in Germany. It will be able to secure supplies of electricity and heat to 26 million households in Europe for 50 years to come. The 1,224 kilometre-long pipe (approximately 760 miles) is currently located on the bottom in three lengths. Norwegian subsea expertise will be called upon to weld together the lengths of pipe on the seabed.
