AVEVA has announced STX OSV has standardised its engineering and 3D design work on AVEVA Marine and has purchased more than 100 additional software licenses. The technology, which STX OSV has selected over Tribon and a competitive solution, will be implemented globally across ten shipyards.
China to Accelerate Offshore Energy Search
China plans to accelerate geological exploration and survey work for oil and natural gas to ease its rising reliance on energy imports, according to the Ministry of Land and Resources, which intends to draw up strategies to achieve breakthroughs in exploration, energy efficiency and replacements for oil and gas. The ultimate goal is to cut China's expanding dependency on foreign oil and to guarantee energy security.
Rena Salvage Update
The Smit Borneo has returned to the Rena wreck site and currently has 6 anchors secured in position. Svitzer advise the tugs, Singapore, Go Canopus and Koraki are assisting. Two connections to the Rena are still to be made, and will hopefully be completed soon, subject to sea/swell conditions at the site. The forecast is for swells to remain at 1.1m, with a total expected wave height of 2.5m, with winds from the north, turning to SE on Wednesday.

Yan Kai, the chief engineer of China's manned deep-sea submersible research vessel Jiaolong, confirmed that the craft will reach a depth of 7,000 meters below sea level this summer, thereby meeting its design goals. Tideland Signal, an international specialist in aids to marine navigation, has won the contract to supply SolaMAX solar-powered marine lanterns to guide vessels safely through the reef and into the new fishing harbour of Dikkowita on the west coast of Sri Lanka, 10 km to the north of Colombo.
