ROTTERDAM, 18 March 2011 – Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) reported that all the crew have returned to the MOL-chartered bulker C.S. Victory, which was carried toward a breakwater by the tsunami and grounded in the shallow harbor at Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, on Friday, March 11. Arrest Order Forces Cruise Ship Owner To Settle Outstanding Ship Agency Bill
International Transport Intermediaries Club (ITIC) has warned that failure to pay ship agents promptly in accordance with contractual agreements can have serious consequences for shipowners, and can potentially involve them in costs which far exceed any unpaid invoices. In the latest issue of its Claims Review, ITIC cites the case of a South American ship agent which was owed $25,000 by the owners of a cruise ship in respect of crew costs and supplies.
MOL upgrades North Europe - West Africa Service
ROTTERDAM, 18 March 2011 – MOL is upgrading its current ARN product to a fixed day weekly service between Europe and West Africa, with excellent connections via Antwerp for Asian and North American cargo. The new service will launch from Hamburg on 6 April, calling Thamesport, Antwerp, Dakar (Senegal), Tin Can (Nigeria), Tema (Ghana), Antwerp, Hamburg. Abidjan will also be included in the schedule when the political situation in the Ivory Coast allows.
Strategic Marine Wins Contract To Provide High-Speed Patrol Vessels
Western Australian owned international shipbuilding company Strategic Marine has been contracted to provide high-speed patrol vessels for the Australian Federal Police. The three 16 metre vessels will be manufactured for use by Indonesian authorities. Minister for Home Affairs Brendan O'Connor says the construction of three high-speed patrol boats for the Indonesian National Police is well underway, as part of support from the Gillard Government to help tackle people smuggling in the region.
Naming Ceremony For Seven Havila Held In Stavanger
Subsea 7, a leading seabed-to-surface engineering and construction services contractor, Havila Shipping and Havyard Design & Engineering held an official naming ceremony for the new-build diving support vessel, Seven Havila, in Stavanger on Thursday 17 March 2011. The vessel, one of the most sophisticated of its kind, is 120 metres long with 1050 m2 of deck space and is capable of travelling at a fast transit speed of 17 knots.
