MESAB to Retrofit Tankers with BWT Systems
ME Solutions of Tumba Sweden (MESAB) has received an order from Alfa Laval Nordic AS regarding retrofitting two ships with the Pureballast PB500 2.0 system. The ships are owned by Frederiet AB in Sweden and chartered by the oil company Nynäs AB, which is a subsidiary of the Finnish oil company Neste Oil. The system will be installed in the pump rooms of the ships. All piping will be made of GRE type pipes. Installation is estimated to be completed January 2012.

Austal USA honored graduates of Austal’s cutting-edge four-year apprenticeship program with a banquet at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center in Mobile, Alabama. The 38 graduates received their certificates of completion and designation as Department of Labor Class A Journeymen. They were joined by their supervisors, instructors and many of Austal USA’s executive and human resources staff in celebrating this momentous occasion.
Permanent Underwater Insert Repair in Algeciras
Recently Hydrex Spain carried out a permanent insert repair on a 225-meter cargo vessel at anchorage in Algeciras. The vessel had suffered a stress-related crack on the port side next to the bilge keel and water was coming into the ballast tank. The classification society therefore required that a repair be carried out before the end of the month. After arrival on site and installation of a workstation, both an on-board and an underwater inspection were made of the damaged area.

Pharos Offshore Group has started construction of a newly designed remotely operated vehicle (ROV) specifically for the offshore wind farm cable market. The new Inter Turbine Array Trencher, the ITAT 800, is an 800 HP (600 kW) self-propelled trenching ROV that can be more easily maneuvered by the operators onboard its support ship than a towed plough. Rolls-Royce Ship Lifts to Middle East Yards
Rolls-Royce won contracts to supply Syncrolift ship lifts to two shipyards in the Middle East. One order, from Damen Shipyards Sharjah FZE (DSS) will see a Syncrolift designed and installed at Hamriyah Free Zone shipyard at Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates. This installation, with a docking platform of 120 metres in length and a width of 26.5 metres will be the sixth Rolls-Royce Syncrolift installed in the UAE and it will be operational by the end of 2012.
