Cosalt Names Cunningham to Lifeboat Div.
Cosalt Offshore, a provider of lifting, tooling and marine services to the oil and gas industry, has appointed Colin Cunningham to help drive the growth of its expanding lifeboat business both in the UK and internationally. Cunningham will be General Manager of the new Lifeboat Division and will be based in Aberdeen. New recruit Colin Cunningham has extensive experience in the lifeboat sector and previously has had senior roles developing business in the UK and worldwide.
New USCG Rescue 21 System, N. Calif.
The U.S. Coast Guard formally accepted and introduced its new Rescue 21 advanced communications system at Group Humboldt Bay on Feb. 16. This new capability, which will eventually be introduced nationwide, increases the ability of Coast Guard men and women to execute all of their missions, especially their search and rescue mission, with greater agility and efficiency. The Feb. 16 ceremony included speeches from senior, local, and national Coast Guard officials.
NOAA to Use New Hurricane Wind Scale
NOAA's National Weather Service will use a new hurricane scale this season called the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. On 12 February 2010, the container ship Maersk Sydney called at the Port of Hamburg for the first time as part of the Maersk Line’s expanded AE-10 scheduled liner service. This liner service links the ports of Shenzhen (Dachan Bay), Ningbo, Shanghai, Kaohsiung, Shenzhen (Yantian), Hong Kong and Tanjung Pelepas with continental Europe. Wärtsilä Wins Advanced Lube Order
Wärtsilä has been awarded a contract by DSD Shipping AS of Stavanger, Norway to retrofit the main engines on four DSD Shipping vessels with the Wärtsilä Retrofit Pulse Lubricating System. The Retrofit Pulse Lubricating System (RPLS) is designed to lower the oil feed rate to the engine, thus cutting the consumption of lubricating oil. This creates savings in operating costs, and also has a positive effect on exhaust emissions.

Cathelco Protects New USCG Cutters
A series of fast response cutters being built for the U.S. Coast Guard will be protected against hull corrosion and marine pipework bio-fouling with a system manufactured by Cathelco Ltd. The Sentinel Class cutters, measuring 154 ft in length and capable of speeds of more than 28 knots, are being constructed at the Bollinger Shipyard’s facility in Lockport, La. The order for the Cathelco equipment has been won by Russ Equipment Co. Inc., Cathelco’s agent based in New Orleans.
