Strategic Marine’s Singapore shipyard is currently implementing an infrastructure development plan to be completed by 2011. Strategic Marine Singapore recently signed a contract to build four electric powered water taxis for Singapore tourism company Russell Rocks Pte Ltd. With a seating capacity of 24 passengers, the vessels have been designed specifically for the client’s scenic taxi service operations.

George Betz, a 6140 horsepower oceangoing tug, back into service for Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc., Melville, NY as an Articulated Tug/Barge (ATB) unit.

Sartor Offshore Rescue, $52M in New Business
Aberdeen-based Sartor Offshore Rescue Ltd has won work with a total value of $52m in the first two months of the year to provide emergency rescue and recovery services in the North Sea. Among several new contracts is one to supply Total E&P UK Ltd with the Ocean Ness for up to 10 years, securing at least 30 jobs. The field support vessel will depart Aberdeen at the end of March for its 130 nautical miles (240 km) to Total’s Elgin and Franklin fields in the Central North Sea.

Cargo Vessel Frigia Hijacked
On the morning of 23 of March, the Malta flagged Turkish owned (Garanti Finansal Kiralama) cargo ship MV Frigia, deadweight 35,000 tonnes, was reported hijacked in the Indian Ocean. The hijacking took place approximately 1000 Nautical miles east of the northern coast of Somalia. This position is closer to India than Somalia and is approximately 400 N Miles outside the normal EU NAVFOR operation area. The ship was heading from Port Said to Kaousichang in Thailand.

St. Johns Ship Building Landing Craft Contract
St. Johns Ship Building, Inc was awarded contract to construct a 190-ft Landing Craft for G & G Shipping out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. This will be the fifth vessel of its fleet which joins others built by St. Johns. The vessel designed by Frank Basile of Entech and Associates, Inc. Houma, La. The Landing Craft will be equipped with twin CAT 3412 Engines approx 720 hp each and have an open deck space of 6,600 sq ft with capacity to carry 600 Tons roll on roll off cargo.
New Fuel Station for Vancouver Harbour
In December 2009, the Chevron Legacy, a new and now the only marine fuel station for Vancouver Harbour, was completed by the builders, Alaska Ship & Drydock, Inc. of Ketchikan, Alaska. The station was then towed to Vancouver and was installed and made operational in late January, 2010. This station replaced the Chevron barge S.O.B.C. No. 5 which has been moored in Coal Harbour since it was built in 1959.
