With the recent introduction of stringent environmental regulations, such as those from the IMO, ship owners and operators are increasingly obliged to operate their MAN B&W two-stroke main engines on ultra-low sulphur fuels in defined marine zones. Furthermore, CARB (the Californian Air Resource Board) has enforced the use of diesel oils (MDO) or gas oils (MGO) in Californian waters since 1 July, 2009, while European harbours introduced similar requirements at the start of 2010.
Markey Machinery’s DEPCF-42 Winch for New Offshore Tug
Markey Machinery Company of Seattle, Wash. recently delivered a model DEPCF-42 40HP Electric Render/Recover Winch to Eastern Shipbuilding for installation on the new Bisso Offshore tug, Beverly B. This hawser winch features capacity for 500 ft. of 8¬inch soft-line, proven Render/Recover capability to 180 ft/min. line-speed and a brake that will hold 150 tons. All electric controls and a line-tension display system with data-logging rounds out the system.
Mid America Shipyard Delivers Another Truckable Tug
Mid America Shipyards LLC, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, has just delivered another of its truckable tug boats. The vessel has been shipped to a project in up-state New York. This tug boat was constructed in 30 working days which was done in half the time of our last tugs. The J-KRAB is the Seventh Vessel to leave our yard this year so far. Bisso Marine Subsea Basket Lift
Bisso Marine lifted two sections of a subsea basket weighing 275 tons each. The company used the D/B Cappy Bisso to lift the two sections of the subsea basket onto a materials barge for delivery offshore. The derrick barge had to hold one of the 275-ton sections in place while the two pieces were welded together.
Incat Crowther Designs 98.5-ft Monohull Crew Boats
Incat Crowther announced a contract to design two 98.5-ft aluminium monohull crewboats for service in Nigeria. Incat Crowther’s brief is to design vessels that are easy to construct and robust in operation, with simple systems; in line with the demands of the region. To be built by Cape Town-based Veecraft Marine, the project represents the start of a new collaboration between Incat Crowther and the South African shipyard. Each vessel will feature a large working deck with guard rails.
