Baron Services announced the availability of Baron QuikLink, a subscription-based global weather data service. Supplying graphical weather information in small, targeted downloads over a data connection, QuikLink features the World Marine data package, which provides a 23-region coverage area. Civilian Mariners to crew Navy JHSVs
The Chief of Naval Operations has approved the Navy's joint high speed vessel (JHSV) crewing approach developed by Military Sealift Command. Because the ships are new and could conduct a wide variety of missions, MSC determined that the best course of action is to institute a pilot program where the first two vessels (JHSV 2 and JHSV 4) will be crewed with civil service mariners, and the following three will be crewed with civilian contract mariners.
Mathilde Maersk Largest Vessel to Call Vietnam
Vietnam has witnessed the largest ship ever to call at her shores. The Mathilde Maersk made its inaugural call as part of Maersk Line’s new direct service between South Vietnam and the U.S. West Coast on its Trans-Pacific 6 string (TP6) on 11 May 2010. Mathilde Maersk measures 1,204 ft long and can carry about 9,000 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent unit). Alnmaritec Fast Patrol Boats to Yemen
Alnmaritec Limited announced recently that it has supplied two new fast patrol boats for duty at an LNG export terminal in the Yemen. The two new boats will join three other Alnmaritec boats which are already operating at the terminal providing line handling and pilot services. The new Wave Protector class patrol boats are 39 ft long by 10.5 ft wide and are powered by twin Cummins QSB 480bhp engines driving Ultrajet 305 water jets giving them a top speed of 38 knots.
