Aker Philadelphia Delivers Ninth Product Tanker
Aker Philadelphia Shipyard (Oslo: AKPS), a U.S. commercial shipyard, delivered its ninth Veteran Class MT-46 product tanker May 14 to American Shipping Company (Oslo: AMSC). The 46,000 dwt vessel, named the Overseas Martinez, will leave the shipyard in the coming days under the operation of OSG America to transport petroleum products for Tesoro. Aker Philadelphia has three other vessels currently under construction as part of its historical build program.

Polychem’s Dispersit for Oil Spills
U.S. Polychemical Corp said that currently the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is being contained by the use of a chemical solvent that is potentially harmful to wild life. According to Polychem, its product, Dispersit, a water-based surfactant product used to clean up oil spills, has shown a significant reduction in the harm caused to both human and aquatic life. Dispersant products formulated with petroleum mineral spirits used as dilutents can be potentially harmful, the company claims.
SCA Recognizes Austal USA for Safety
Austal USA received two awards from the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) for commitment to improving safety and health in the workplace. Austal USA President and COO, Joe Rella’ Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, Chris Blankenfeld and Vice President of External Affairs, Bill Pfister attended the SCA General Membership Meeting in Washington DC at the end of April where they were presented with the SCA Award for Excellence in Safety and the Award for Improvement in Safety.
