APL Alexandrite First Call, Cai Mep Port
The ship APL Alexandrite became the first linehaul container vessel to call at the Saigon Port-PSA (SP-PSA) deepwater container terminal located on the Cai Mep river in Ba Ria Vung Tau Province in southern Vietnam. New OPV Simulator by Transas
Transas has developed a new engine room simulator of the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV). A new simulator has been installed at the Royal New Zealand Navy Engineering School as a part of their Marine Engineering Sythetic Training Environmet (MESTE) complex. The project was locally supported by the Electronic Navigation Ltd. The simulator provides the RNZN with a flexible solution to meet their training and assessment needs.
Transas ECDIS Ordered for 54 Bulk Carries
Transas Marine Pacific (Singapore) together with its distributor Marix K. K. (Japan) has secured a contract to supply 54 Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) to Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line). All systems are intended for the bulk carriers. Installations have already started and scheduled to be completed during 2009. All vessels will be equipped with the latest type-approved Transas Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History opened "On the Water: Stories from Maritime America," a new, permanent exhibition designed to engage the public in an exploration of America's maritime heritage. The 8,500 sq ft exhibition builds on the Smithsonian's National Watercraft Collection of rigged ship models, patent models, documents and images to bring the sights, sounds and stories from the oceans, inland rivers and coastal communities to the museum's millions of visitors.
