Northrup Grumman Awarded $374m Contract
Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) received a $374m cost type contract award for construction preparation of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier CVN 79. The carrier, which has yet to be been named, is the second ship of the Gerald R. Ford class. The company's Shipbuilding sector will perform the work in Newport News, Va., which includes design efforts, planning and the procurement of long lead-time material such as propulsion machinery.

Crowley Underway with 3 Container Cranes
This will mark the second delivery that Crowley has made in recent months with these types of cranes for Bickerton Iron Works, Inc. The first shipment included three cranes for the SSA terminal in Manzanillo, Mexico. Crowley's tug Mars and Barge 416, which were used in the transport of cranes to Manzanillo in late Nov. and early Dec., are carrying the second set of cranes from Los Angeles to Guam with an anticipated delivery date of Feb.
Patent for Colligo Marine Mooring System
Colligo Marine has received a United States Patent for its Bridle Plate Mooring System. The system eliminates line to line interference. Simple, lightweight and corrosion-resistant, the galvanized system maintains mooring line separation to minimize chafe and safely allows redundant lines to the mooring. Two versions are available. One with eyebolt shackles and a premium system with safety shackles that uses nuts with cotter pins for extra security.

Three New Sailor VHF Radios
Satellite and radio communications specialist, Thrane & Thrane, has unveiled a new Sailor VHF series. The new Sailor 6210 VHF, Sailor 6215 VHF DSC Class D and FCC approved Sailor 6216 VHF DSC Class D will be available for sale in mid 2009. These new VHFs are designed and developed for the fishing and work boat segments. All three radios can automatically receive AIS signals and an interface enables connection to a PC or chart-plotter.
