In mid July of 2008, oil prices shattered all-time records and hovered around $140 per barrel. Analysts had dire warnings of $200 per barrel oil. MOL, Gulf LPG Transport Start VLGC Pool
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced on Jan. 27, the formation of a very large gas carrier (VLGC) pool called LPG Global Transport, along with Gulf LPG Transport Company W.L.L. of Qatar (Gulf LPG). The pool will begin operations immediately. Gulf LPG Transport Company W.L.L. is a limited liability joint venture company established by Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) and Qatar Shipping Company. MOL and Gulf LPG have jointly incorporated LPG Global Transport Management Inc.

Marlink 5Yr Contract with Aida Cruises
Marlink, the world's largest maritime satellite communications integrator has announced a new five year contract with German cruise company Aida Cruises, for the supply of its Sealink(T) satellite communications system. Sealink(T) will be provided to five existing cruise vessels and three planned new builds, the first of which will be in operation from spring 2009 with the others in commission in 2010 and 2011.

Production Resumed at Kvitebjørn
Gas exports from the Kvitebjørn field in the North Sea started on 27 January, after successful repairs to the gas pipeline between the platform and the Kollsnes processing plant near Bergen. The repair work has gone according to plan and the subsequent testing has shown that the pipeline is now ready for use. The Kvitebjørn platform could therefore resume production of gas and condensate on 27 January. The Visund field, which uses the same pipeline, has also resumed gas exports.
