Wärtsilä to Supply IRISL Containerships
Wärtsilä Corporation has received an order for main and auxiliary
engines for six 2478 TEU container ships contracted by Islamic
Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) at Aker MTW Werft GmbH in
Wismar, Germany.
The six ships will each be equipped with a Sulzer 7RTA72U-B low-speed
main engine, having a maximum continuous power of 21,560 kW at 99
rev/min. They will also each be supplied with three Wärtsilä diesel
generating sets, two sets with Wärtsilä 8L20 engines each of 1360 kW
output at 900 rev/min, and the third set with a Wärtsilä 6L20 engine
of 1020 kW at the same speed.
The main engines will be built at Wärtsilä's Trieste factory in Italy
while the generating sets will be manufactured at the Vaasa factory
in Finland. Engine deliveries to the shipyards are due between July
2003 and February 2004.
To meet the delivery dates required by IRISL, four of the ships will
be constructed by Aker MTW and two by Kvaerner Warnow Werft in
Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany, both shipyards being managed by Aker
Kvaerner Yards. Delivery of all six vessels will be completed by mid
2004.
The ships are of the MTW 2500 type, with a length of 207.4 m and beam
of 29.8 m. They have stowage for 2478 TEU with 200 reefer sockets.
The ships' service speed is 22.3 knots on a design draught of 10.1 m.
This latest order will bring to 16 the number of container ships of
this design with Sulzer 7RTA72U-B main engines and Wärtsilä 20
generating sets. A series of ten vessels with the same main engines
and generating sets are under construction at Aker MTW with the first
having been delivered in 2001.
