Synapsis INS for New Car Carriers
The German navigation system integrator Raytheon Anschütz has won a contract to supply the latest generation of IMO-certified Integrated Navigation Systems (INS) to three car carriers built by the Croatian shipbuilder Uljanik Brodogradiliste.
The Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) will be owned by Cayman Island based Auto Marine Transport Inc. and are scheduled for entering service from end of 2016. The new PCTCs will operate under a long-term charter of Siem Car Carriers AS. Each of the vessels has capacity to carry up to 7,000 cars.
Raytheon Anschütz will supply Integrated Navigation from the Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control series in accordance with IMO’s new INS Performance and Test Standards as specified in MSC.252(83) / IEC 61924-2.
The Integrated Navigation System will feature four Synapsis NX Multifunctional Workstations for Chart Radar, ECDIS and Conning, as well as the new generation of NautoScan NX radar transceivers. Another ECDIS will be supplied as dedicated route planning station. The scope is extended with the adaptive NP 5000 autopilot system, a double Standard 22 gyro compass system, and the full package of navigation sensors, as well as with the complete GMDSS A3 radio communication system.
The INS provides full integration of sensor data and other information such as AIS, NAVTEX, charts, radar and alarms. Depending on their prevalent nautical task, the crew has available all needed information at a glance, benefits from immediate situation awareness and can take over control from any bridge workplace with a single action only. With standard features such as a common data back bone, a consistent common reference system (CCRS), an enhanced central target management, an intelligent central alert management, a system-wide health monitoring or an advanced user setting management the INS further contributes to simplicity, efficiency and safety in bridge operations.
Raytheon Anschütz has contracted more than 100 Synapsis INS and was the first company who delivered INS in compliance with IMO’s Performance Standards. The latest Synapsis NX generation is based on ultra-compact and powerful Small Marine Computers which serve as the standard hardware platform for all bridge applications. Together with an innovative software framework as part of each workstation this offers highest flexibility to adapt the Integrated Navigation System to a variety of ship types and owner requirements.
