Harvey Gulf to Construct First US-Flagged LNGs
On July 28, 2011, Harvey Gulf International Marine’s Board of Directors approved the construction of the first United States-flagged LNG Offshore Supply Vessels. Harvey Gulf International Marine’s Chairman & CEO Shane J. Guidry stated that this is another example of Harvey Gulf’s commitment to meet its clients' future needs. Guidry also said that a contract will be awarded to a US shipyard on or before August 28, 2011.
Delivery of a New VLCC to Oman Shipping
Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C. accepted delivery of a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), SAMAIL, from Universal Shipbuilding Corporation, in Kawasaki city inJapan, becoming the 29th vessel to be operated by the company. The 300,000-dwt Panamanian flagged vessel SAMAIL measures 330 x 60 m with a draft of around 22 m. She will be the first VLCC to be technically managed "in house" by OSC’s subsidiary by Oman Ship Management Company S.A.O.C. in Muscat.

Lloyd's Register (LR) gives shipowners and operators a new tool to help assess designs and reduce the risk of fatigue damage in the hull structures of their ice-strengthened vessels. The Cardiff-based Graig Group has ordered a series of up to 26 fuel-efficient new generation MARLIN 2000 Blue design container feeders to be built at the major Jin Hai shipyard complex in China. Daewoo Develops Gas Supply System
In May 2011, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering developed a new HP-FGS (High-Pressure Fueled Gas Supply) system for MAN-Diesel & Turbo’s ME-GI Engine. Though there are small and middle-size LNG fueled vessels already, this dual fuel engine was designed for large commercial vessels. This HP-FGS system supplies highly-pressurized (about 300 bar) natural gas fuel to an engine. To date, existing FGS systems compress gas to a high pressure.
