Hammerfest LNG Plant Resumes Production

The Norwegian LNG plant was shut down due to water ingress in natural gas driers, but is now back in production. Large amounts of natural gas are sent ashore and cooled down at Hammerfest LNG on Melkøya, the worldâs most northerly and Europeâs first export facility for LNG from Snøhvit, the first petroleum development in the Barents Sea that has no installations above the seaâs surface. Statoilâs share of production from Snøhvit comprises roughly 50,000 barrels of oil equivalents per day.

The vessel is to be built at Kleven Maritimeâs shipyard Kleven Verft. Total contract value for Kleven is around 400 million NOK. In addition, the contract also includes an option for a further vessel of the same type. The newbuild is of the VS 4412 DF PSV type from Wärtsila Ship Design Norway. âCompetition has been really hard this time, and we chose Kleven Maritime because of their long experience and competence when it comes to building LNG powered vessels.

Rolls-Royce to Power New Cruise Ferries

Rolls-Royce signed a contract with ship owner Fjord Line A/S to install LNG based power and propulsion systems in two cruise ferries being built at the Bergen Group Fosen AS yard in Norway. Each vessel will be equipped with four gas engines, powering a highly efficient Promas integrated rudder and propeller propulsion system. The gas-only fuelled engines will reduce Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions by about 90 percent while Sulphur Oxide (SOx) and particulates emissions will be negligible.

The plan for making liquefied gas (LNG) available as fuel for shipping in the Netherlands has come another step closer. According to Hans Smits, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, an agreement with ECT will make land available for a âfilling stationâ between the Gate (LNG) and Euromax (containers) terminals. ECT and the Port Authority are still to work out the last details and sign the agreement.

China's First LNG-powered Tugs to Have Wärtsilä Engines

The tugs are being built for CNOOC Energy Technology & Services Limited (CETS), a subsidiary of the state-owned China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC). The vessels are the first in a planned series to be fuelled by liquefied natural gas (LNG), and will be the first tugs in China ever to be operated on gas, they will also be the first tugs globally to take advantage of the dual-fuel benefits offered by the Wärtsilä DF engine technology.

Veka-Group Develops LNG Tankers
