NASSCO to Construct Two Product Tankers for Seabulk

General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, has entered into a contract with Seabulk Tankers, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of SEACOR Holdings Inc., for the design and construction of two 50,000 deadweight ton LNG-conversion-ready product carriers each with a 330,000 barrel cargo capacity. Construction of the first tanker is scheduled to begin in late 2014, with deliveries scheduled for the second quarter of 2016 and first quarter of 2017.

The 'LNG Greenrhine'' has been christened by Mrs. Edwige Belliard, president of Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR). The LNG Greenrhine is an electrically powered ship with diesel generators fuelled by LNG (Liquid Natural Gas). The use of LNG, compared to the traditional diesel oil, reduces emissions of CO2 and nitrogen oxides (NOx) by more than 25% and 80% respectively. Moreover, no sulphur dioxide (SO2) and particles are released.
GE to Propel Maran LNG Carriers

Induction-based electric propulsion motor technology from GE’s Power Conversion business will be used to power four new LNG carriers that Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries will build for Maran Gas Maritime, the gas shipping unit of the Angelicoussis Shipping Group. Contracts for the propulsion systems were signed in late May. Hyundai Heavy Industries will deliver the vessels over a 15-month period beginning in July 2015.

Unique System FZE, a Unique Maritime Group company and an integrated turnkey subsea and offshore solution providers, was contracted by ADNATCO-NGSCO to deliver ship performance monitoring solutions that will help to optimize vessel performance and subsequently aim to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The entire project will be carried out by Unique System FZE, acting as agents for the Iceland based energy management company Marorka ehf.

GasLog Buy STX Pan Ocean LNG Carrier

GasLog Ltd. has signed a memorandum of agreement to acquire the 'STX Frontier', a 2010-built, 153,600 cubic meter LNG carrier from Singapore- based company STX Pan Ocean LNG PTE. Ltd. The intention is that GasLog will take over the vessel from STX Pan Ocean early in the fourth quarter of 2013 in Spain, which makes her well positioned to take advantage of the current tight supply of tonnage for this winter in the Atlantic.
Bestobell Secures First Deal Following Wärtsilä Agreement

Bestobell Valves, part of the President Engineering Group (PEGL), based in Sheffield, U.K., has received its first order from Wärtsilä Gas Power Systems (GPS), the gas power solutions provider for the global marine and energy markets. The two companies announced a new partnership agreement in April, which sees Bestobell Valves being the preferred supplier of cryogenic valves for Wärtsilä’s market leading LNGPac fuel system.

Carnival to Drydock 32 Ships by 1H 2016

In the quest meet stringent new emissions regulations, cruise industry major Carnival Corp. earlier this month reached an agreement in principle with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Coast Guard to develop its own advanced emission control technology to be used in waters surrounding U.S. coasts. The plan calls for the cruise major to drydock 32 ships between now and the first half of 2016.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Coast Guard have reached an agreement in principle with Carnival Corporation to develop advanced emission control technology to be used in waters surrounding U.S. coasts. Under the agreement, Carnival will develop and deploy a new exhaust gas cleaning system on up to 32 ships over the next three years to be used in Emission Control Areas (ECA’s). The North American and U.S. Caribbean ECA’s create a buffer zone around U.S.
