Bureau Veritas Classes World’s Largest Bilobe LNG Tanks

International classification society Bureau Veritas is classing the world’s largest bilobe gas tanks. They are nearing completion at China’s Sinopacific yard and will be installed in a series of four 27,500 cu m semi-refrigerated LNG/Ethylene carriers building for Denmark’s Evergas. Each of the IMO Type C bilobe tanks has a capacity of 9,686 cu m. Two of the tanks in each vessel will be supplemented by a third conical Type C cargo tank and a smaller LNG fuel tank on the deck of the vessels.

Shell Floats Hull for World’s Largest Floating Facility

The 488-meter-long-hull of Shell’s Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility has been floated out of the dry dock at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) yard in Geoje, South Korea, where the facility is currently under construction. Prelude will unlock new energy resources offshore and produce approximately 3.6 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per annum (mtpa) to meet growing demand, 1.3 mtpa of condensate and 0.4 mtpa of LPG.

RAmparts Tugs Delivered in China

The first of a new series of the RAmparts 3500 Class ASD tug design was delivered to its Owners Tianjin Port, a port in the northern part of China. The vessel was constructed at Shanghai Harbor Fuxing Shipping Service Company, and was named Jin Gang Lun 26.A sister vessel is under construction at the same shipyard. The hull of the new 35 meter design has been developed from the very successful 32 meter Ramparts design series, of which more than 100 tugs have been built in the past decade.

Wärtsilä's new 2-stroke, low pressure, dual-fuel engine has been selected by Terntank Rederi A/S, the Denmark based tanker operator, to power two new environmentally advanced, 15,000 DWT tankers. These will be the first installations of this engine. The new Wärtsilä technology was recently introduced at a customer event held at the company's Trieste, Italy facilities, and the first engine utilising this technology is the Wärtsilä RT-flex50DF.
Concordia Maritime Appoint Kim Ullman President

Joakim (Kim) Ullman has been appointed President of Concordia Maritime AB with effect from 1 January 2014. Kim comes from Stena LNG where he has been CEO since 2012 and he will replace Hans Norén who will leave Concordia Maritime at the end of the year after ten years as president. “After a methodical search during the autumn, both externally and in the Stena AB group, the board of directors is very pleased that Kim Ullman has agreed to take over the helm at Concordia Maritime.

Russian energy company Gazprom takes a look at its marketing policy in the international markets of small & large-scale LNG supply in line with its updated LNG production and supply strategy, and decides to focus on the Asia-Pacific market. Gazprom's main efforts for expanding large-scale LNG exports are to be focused on the fast-growing Asia-Pacific market. The company says it will step up its presence in the new market primarily through increasing the production of its own LNG.

New Vladivostok LNG Terminal Project on Track

At a recent meeting of Gazprom's Management Committee, Chairman Alexey Miller noted that the project was progressing rapidly and on schedule – the first train of an LNG plant will be commissioned in 2018. Gazprom explains that it aims to speed up new LNG projects in order to increase their share in the global gas market. Vladivostok-LNG is one of such projects. A special purpose company – Gazprom LNG Vladivostok – has been set up to implement the project.

Washington State Ferries a Step Closer to LNG Propulsion

Washington State Ferries say they are another step closer to significantly reducing fuel costs and transportation emissions by switching a class of vessels from diesel fuel to liquefied natural gas. After more than three years of study, WSF has a plan to safely convert six Issaquah Class vessels to run on cleaner-burning LNG. The proposal has been officially submitted to the U.S. Coast Guard in a formal letter of intent (LOI) and waterways suitability assessment (WSA).

FMC Commissioner William P. The Panama Canal may remake world trade patterns. To be finished in 2015, the $5-billion expansion of the Panama Canal will create a third lane accommodating mega-ships nearly three times larger than previously passable and this may significantly reduce shipping time to Asia. The expansion impacts state ports, rail lines, trucking and cargo movement from the south and east to the west.

Damen Shiprepair Brest (France) received her seventh LNG booking for the drydocking, maintenance and repair of the LNG carrier BachirChihan. The Hyproc Shipping owned and managed vessel will arrive November 25. The work scope on the BachirChihaniis extensive and reaches close to 30,000 man-hours. The vessel is expected to stay close to a month in drydock nr 3. damen.com
