Safe LNG Bunkering: OGP & ISO Issue Draft Guide
OGP (International Association of Oil and Gas Producers) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization) have released their interim draft in response to industry uncertainties associated with trade regulations (EU and US) and their applicability to standardisation in the oil and gas sector. The authors explain that there is an industry need to provide guidance for the equipment, systems, procedures and training for those parties engaged in the delivery of LNG as fuel to ships.
Floating Production Systems: Market Update
Currently, 319 oil/gas floating production units are now in service, on order or being remarketed for reuse. FPSOs account for 66% of the existing systems, 73% of systems on order. Another 25 floating LNG processing systems are in service or on order. Liquefaction floaters account for 16%, regasification floaters 84%. No liquefaction units are yet in service – all 4 are on order. In addition, 102 floating storage units are in service, on order or available.
Norwegian Player to Power LNGCs with ME-GI
Adoption of dual-fuel, low-speed engine type by market grows apace. Knutsen OAS Shipping, the Norwegian shipping company, has placed an order for 2 × 2 7G70ME-GI engines in connection with the building of two 176,300 m3 capacity LNG carriers. The specified engines are also based on MAN Diesel & Turbo’s new, ultra-long-stroke, G-type concept to deliver an even higher, overall propulsion plant efficiency.

Gazprom & Spain’s Enagas Consider LNG Export Opportunities
The two energy providers discussed the possibilities of co-operation in supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) particularly from the Baltic LNG project to the European and Latin American markets, during a recent meeting at Gazprom HQ. Russia's Gazprom inform that the meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company's Management Committee and Marcelino Oreja, Chief Executive Officer of Enagas also noted that Spain had a potential to become one of the major consumers of LNG from the project.
Sea Star Line, TOTE Leadership Changes
Effective January 1, 2014, Sea Star Line (SSL) President Peter Keller will become Executive Vice President of Sea Star Line’s parent company, TOTE, Inc. In this new capacity he will assist in the oversight of both TOTE Shipholdings and the TOTE Maritime Division, which includes Sea Star Line and Totem Ocean Trailer Express (Totem Ocean). Keller joined TOTE in February of 2012 as President of Sea Star Line and has been leading the conversion of the company’s fleet to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
BW Selects KVH mini-VSAT Broadband for LNG and LPG Fleet
KVH Industries, Inc. was chosen by BW, a worldwide maritime energy transportation company, as the satellite communications solution for its Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) fleet. BW’s vessels will use KVH’s advanced, dual-mode TracPhone V11-IP onboard satellite communications system and mini-VSAT Broadband service for the “always-on” broadband connectivity that is essential for today’s commercial maritime operations.

Wärtsilä said it will will provide a complete dual-fuel propulsion and LNG equipment package for a new passenger ferry being built for the Germany based Reederei Cassen Eils GmbH. LNG Cold-Ironing Cruise Ship Barge on the Stocks
Hamburg-based Hybrid Port Energy GmbH, has awarded a building contract to Shipbuilding and Machinery of Komárno, Slovakia to build the world’s first LNG Hybrid Barge to supply low-emission electrical power to cruise ships in port. The LNG Hybrid Barge will be delivered by summer 2014, only two years after the initial project startup. The 74 m long barge will be stationed in the Port of Hamburg, which will then be the first port in Europe able to provide cold ironing power to cruise ships.
