ClassNk held LNG-Fuelled Vessel Technologies seminars in Shanghai and Singapore on 22 July and 24, July 2014, respectively. With the industry looking to adopt cleaner fuels to meet new environmental regulations as well as future economic growth , the demand for LNG as a fuel is rapidly increasing. ClassNK said it organized the seminars to provide the industry with the latest technical information on the use of LNG as a fuel and related technology.

ABS and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) today to promote maritime research and development (R&D) and innovation. Over the next five years, ABS and MPA will collaborate on maritime R&D in the areas of alternative/clean fuel and developing resilient, next-generation port systems. Both parties will also commit to promote and share maritime thought leadership on technology.

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) is encouraging the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control to ensure that a harmonized approach to PSC inspections has been developed in advance of the January 1, 2015 deadline with respect to the implementation of the 0.1% Sulphur Emission Control Areas (ECAs), established in accordance with MARPOL Annex VI. ICS has underlined the shipping industry’s commitment to full compliance with the IMO sulphur ECA requirements from January 2015.
Bureau Veritas Kick-starts LNG Bunkering

International classification society Bureau Veritas has published a comprehensive set of guidelines on LNG Bunkering, with the aim of speeding adoption of LNG as a ship’s fuel by kick-starting the LNG bunker chain.
