NASSCO Licenses LNG Containment Tech to Braemar

General Dynamics NASSCO and Braemar LNG BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Braemar Shipping Services PLC, have signed a technology licensing agreement for Braemar to use NASSCO’s intellectual property in its design and construction of Flat-Panel, Semi-Membrane, Prismatic-Shaped (FSP) LNG containment systems. FSP is a new multipurpose Type B flat-panel, semi-membrane, prismatic-shaped LNG tank-containment system which uses flat plate technology and a universal joint configuration.
Tallink, Meyer Turku Ink LOI for New LNG Fast Ferry

The trend toward the procurement of high-spec, environmentally friendly vessels continues with news that AS Tallink Grupp and Meyer Turku Oy signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the construction of an environmentally friendly car-passenger ferry for Tallinn-Helsinki route shuttle operations. The ship will cost around $286 million and will be built at Turku shipyard for delivery in the beginning of 2017. The new ferry will be about 212 m long with a gross tonnage of 49 000.

Bolier Completes MaK Dual Fuel Retrofit

In collaboration with Caterpillar / MaK, Bolier has converted an existing 6M43C engine to a 6M46 Dual Fuel onboard the Coral Anthelia. The project was commissioned by Anthony Veder. In 2012 and 2013, Anthony Veder built four new ethylene carriers fitted with MaK 6M43C propulsion engines. The fourth carrier was already in an advanced stage when the decision was made to convert the existing engine to a dual fuel engine.

ABS has published the ABS Guide for LNG Fuel Ready Vessels to support members and clients in preparing newbuildings for future conversion to gas propulsion. The Guide formalizes the process for clients who wish to plan for conversion to LNG fuel at a future date by providing a detailed review and approval and an associated class notation.
