New Power Optimization Solution for LNG Carriers

South Korean shipbuilder, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and NAPA, a maritime software, services and data analysis provider, now offer a tailored NAPA-DSME Power solution for LNG carriers built by DSME. According to the developers, the specialist solution aims to ensure transparent and accurate measurement of performance and efficiency aboard LNG carriers, including measurement of boil-off to provide a full 360° view of the operation of these vessels.
Crowley’s 2nd LNG ConRo Ship Ahead of Schedule

Shipbuilder VT Halter Marine, Inc. announced construction has started early for the second liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered ConRo ship, Taíno, for Crowley Holdings, Inc. Taíno’s steel cutting ceremony was held May 27 at VT Halter’s Pascagoula, MIss. facility, following the start of construction for sister ship, El Coquí, in October 2014. Both ships are being built for Crowley Maritime Corporation, with deliveries scheduled for mid and late 2017.

The shipping world has been settling down to new restrictions on sulphur content in fuel, introduced after January 1, 2015 in ECAs. Ships in the Baltic Sea, North Sea, English Channel, and waters 200 nautical miles from the coast of U.S. and Canada now need to operate on fuels with a maximum 0.1 percent sulphur content. European Community of Shipowners Associations Secretary General Patrick Verhoeven reports a “so far, so good” attitude towards the new restrictions.

Shipbuilder VT Halter Marine, Inc. has officially started the construction of Taíno, the second of two liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered, combination container – Roll-On/Roll-Off (ConRo) ships for the Crowley Maritime Corp.’s liner services group. VT Halter Marine and Crowley entered into a contract for the pair of ships in November 2013 and construction began on the second ship with the first steel plate cutting in Pascagoula, Miss., this morning.
